Site KL/1 does not conform to the spirit and the letter of MM/104. Its own experts agree that the effects of developing the site will cause significant damage.

Whilst the experts contend that the damage can be mitigated they also say ‘the impacts are considered to be present in both the short and long terms and are unlikely to be reversible over a reasonable period of time’.

Ancient hedgerows, more than 140 years old, will be torn out, as will a number of mature trees other features used as natural habitat. Wildflowers and wild orchids will be torn out and a myriad of habitats will be lost. The working greenway will be lost, although a new one is planned subject, of course, to viability – the card that is always played too late to stop the damage happening in the first place.
